Third Time Lucky?

I know, I know! I've been here before but I really am going to try and get myself sorted with my website and blog! So last night I sat down and made a start on rebuilding my relationship with it all. It is definitely going to be a love /hate relationship, but I'm optimistic! So far , so good. Of course, the website designers have sneakily changed a few things since I last ventured here - but I think I've coped. It's probably only the honeymoon period, but it's summer, the sun is shining, the birds are singing, so it's time to start posting!

Hiya my names sabrina Campbell
I am currently taking art GCSEs and am doing a school project on your work, I was wondering if you could give me some Information and answer some questions for my project?
Your age?
Place of birth?
How your place of birth may have affected your art?
Your hobbies?
Education or further education towards art?
How you started your career?
Influence of your art?
What made you think about using textiles in your art?
If you could email me back with any answers you may be able to provide I would be extremely
Grateful!

Thank you!

Hello Sabrina

Here are some answers to your questions.
My place of birth doesn't affect my work at all! I left there so many years ago and never particularly liked it so it's irrelevant.
My hobby is music. I play the cello and love it - usually! It's hard work, but being actively involved in music making, rather than a passive consumer, is pure magic.
I started my art career by pure chance. I was working for a PhD in philosophy and decided I needed a non-demanding hobby to offset hours and hours alone in the library. I found an embroidery course, by accident, and thought nothing could be less demanding. But I got hooked! I did City and Guilds embroidery then an HND in multi-media textiles, which was grim because the tutor was the tutor from hell! Went to New Designers, did a fair bit of freelance agency design work, where I learned a lot but he work was very rigidly limited by commercial demands, so it became very dull. Then I decided to give it all up and just do my own thing. I did an MA in Contemporary Crafts, which I enjoyed. I use textiles because I just love the medium - it's so sensuous and tactile. And it's very much a medium that you can take in any direction you want, so it's exciting. But I am starting to do more paper work now and I'm about to develop my work into illustration, so I'm about to do an MA in Illustration, which I am very much looking forward to.

I wish you lots of luck with your GCSE and I do hope you continue to enjoy textiles as a medium for creating in. It's fabulous!! Enjoy!

Caroline

Hi I'm Molly and am currently studying a Textiles GCSE; the course is WJEC Creative and Media Level 1/2: Contemporary Textiles. As part of my exam I must make a creative proposal that highlights Roald Dahl's work for Roald Dahl Day, and have researched yourself and your work and am inspired by your landscapes.

I would really appreciate it if you would answer some questions for me,

-Do you have a particular process you follow when creating your landscapes?
-Are there any materials you prefer to use? Why?
-What resources do you use to create your pieces?
-What is it about the Yorkshire Dales that inspires you the most?
-Have you ever done any work for or with children?

Please don't hesitate to add any other information you feel may help me.

Thank you,
Molly.
